Design and survey

Most UniFi problems are ordering mistakes.

Too few access points, the wrong ones, a switch with no PoE headroom, a gateway that won't keep up when the cameras arrive. A survey costs a fraction of fixing that after the fact.

UniFi is easy to adopt and easy to leave half-finished. A large share of our UniFi work starts with an estate someone else installed.

FAQs

Straight answers.

Can you take over a UniFi estate someone else installed?
Yes. Posture review of the console, switching, Wi-Fi and firmware, a documented handover, then changes. Kit you've already paid for usually stays if it's the right kit.
Dream Machine on site, or a hosted console?
A Dream Machine or Cloud Gateway suits a single building. A hosted UniFi OS console we run suits multi-site or high-availability estates. Both roll up into Site Manager; we handle adoption, backups and firmware either way.
Do you supply the hardware?
Yes, through Ubiquiti's Enterprise Partner channel — partner terms, the right SKUs, pre-adopted before it reaches site. You can buy elsewhere; we'll build to the same standard.
What does “managed” mean after go-live?
Scheduled, tested firmware rather than auto-updates. Restorable backups. Site Manager plus independent monitoring of uplinks, PoE, latency and loss. A UK NOC that answers at 3am.
What does a UniFi estate cost?
Hardware is a one-off with no licences behind it; the survey, build and managed service are quoted per estate. A single office is a different number from a country estate, so we price from the design, not from a rate card. You'll see the bill of materials before you commit.
How long from survey to go-live?
A single building: typically two to four weeks including hardware lead time. Multi-site or outdoor estates with fibre runs: longer, and we'll tell you where the time goes. Staging on the bench is what keeps site days short.
We're on Wi-Fi 5 or 6 — is Wi-Fi 7 worth it?
If the access points are due for replacement, yes: U7 gives you 6 GHz and multi-link operation for the same install effort. If they aren't, the money is usually better spent on the switching and the design. We'll say which.
Guest Wi-Fi, staff, cameras and door controllers — how do you keep them apart?
VLANs per role with firewall rules between them, a guest network that can only reach the internet, and cameras and access hubs on their own segments. It's standard UniFi; the difference is designing it up front and documenting it.
How long does Protect keep footage?
As long as the storage you give it. We size the NVR from camera count, resolution and the retention the business or its insurer needs — 30 days is the common ask — and set retention per camera where it matters.
We have several sites. Can they run as one network?
Yes. Every site sits in Site Manager, SiteMagic SD-WAN joins them, and identity and policy are set once. Each site still fails independently, so one outage doesn't become three.
Is UniFi always the right answer?
No. It fits a great many estates and it's the platform we go deepest on, but some scales and compliance regimes point elsewhere. We'll say so in the design pass, not after the invoice.
