Approach / Professional Services

Specialists, on demand.

Architects and senior engineers you can borrow for a sprint or hand the whole thing to. Useful when your team's flat-out, when the work is one-off, or when you want a second pair of eyes on the design before you commit.

Introduction

Sometimes you don't need a managed service. You need a named engineer for three days to land something specific — and then you need them gone again. Or you need the architect who's done it ten times to design the thing properly so your team can build it with confidence.

Specialists when you need them. Out of your hair when you don't.

Professional Services

Engineering bench, without the headcount.

The same architects and senior engineers who build and run our managed estates — available by the day, by the block or by the project. Flexible commercial shape, the same engineering quality.

How you can buy us

Day-rate

Senior engineers by the day for short engagements — design reviews, second opinions, troubleshooting nobody else has cracked.

Block-bought hours

Pre-paid blocks of engineering time, drawn down across a quarter. Useful when the demand is real but the shape is unpredictable.

Fixed-scope project

Defined outcome, defined timeline, defined price. The work has a clear edge — we land it.

Embedded retainer

A named engineer or architect embedded into your team for a recurring share of their time. Continuity without a head.

What you can buy us for

Architecture & design

Networks, identity, cloud, security — designed by people who'll have to live with the design. Documented properly, defensible to a board.

Build & migration

M365 tenant builds, network cutovers, cloud migrations, infrastructure refresh. Specialist hands when your team isn't sized for the spike.

Specialist troubleshooting

The thing nobody else has cracked — Wi-Fi that drops in one corner of the building, a Teams call quality issue everyone's blaming on the ISP, a tenant that won't replicate.

Second-opinion review

An independent read on someone else's design, BoM or migration plan before you commit to it. Often the cheapest insurance you'll buy this year.

What flexible specialist hands actually buy you.

Capacity when it spikes

Your team doesn't get sized for the once-a-year refresh. Ours is. Senior bench available without the cost of carrying it the rest of the year.

Specialism when it's narrow

Cyber, networks, cloud, M365 — the depth your generalist team won't have, hired for the days you need it and gone afterwards.

Second opinions that bite

An independent read on the call you're about to make. Cheaper than the call going wrong eighteen months later.

How to engage

Pick the commercial shape that fits.

No managed contract required. No long-term commitment to something you don't need yet. Just engineering hands on the work that matters this quarter.

  1. Scoping call

Free 30 minutes. Tell us what you need a hand with, we'll tell you whether it's a half-day or a six-month embed.

  2. Day-rate booking

Named engineer, named days, defined deliverable. Useful when you know exactly what you need and just need the hands.

  3. Block-bought hours

Pre-paid quarterly engineering blocks. Predictable budget, flexible deployment, named bench available.

  4. Fixed-scope or retainer

For bigger projects or ongoing embedded support. Quoted on the actual work, not a sticker price.

M-Tech are lucky to have such diligent and knowledgeable members of staff. They were great to work with, extremely agile and prepared to go the extra mile with our needs. We have nothing but praise for them.

FAQs

Questions we hear every week.

Do I have to take a managed-services contract to work with you?
No. Plenty of clients buy us purely for projects, design work or specialist hands and never take the managed service. We're comfortable either way — it's the same engineering bench.
Are these actually senior engineers, or junior ones with a senior tag?
Senior. The engineers we put on professional-services engagements are the same ones who design and run our own managed estates. We don't resource-shape with juniors and call it the same thing.
What's the smallest engagement you'll take?
Half a day. Useful for design reviews, second opinions or quick troubleshooting. Anything smaller and the admin overhead eats it.
Can we use you to design a thing and then build it ourselves?
Absolutely — common pattern. We design, document and hand over; your team or another partner builds. We'll be on the line if they hit something the design didn't cover.
What if the project turns into something bigger?
We'll tell you. If a discrete piece of work uncovers something that wants a programme rather than a sprint, you'll get an honest read on what the bigger engagement looks like — and you choose whether to scope it up.
Where does this sit alongside Onboarding & Projects?
Onboarding & Projects is the wrapper for fixed-scope, governance-heavy programmes — usually moving you onto our managed service. Professional Services is the lighter, hands-led version for one-off engineering work.

Whatever the shape of your team or your stack — multi-site, lean on IT, or somewhere in the middle — we'll listen first, ask the right questions, and tell you honestly how we'd approach it.
