We’ve looked after Brentwood School’s technology for more than ten years. Alongside that day-to-day backstop, we’ve delivered the projects that modernised the estate, from server virtualisation and hyper-converged infrastructure to hybrid cloud, backup and network tooling. Ten years in, we know the environment well enough to advise with context, not from a standing start.
Brentwood School is an independent school in Brentwood, Essex, with a strong academic reputation and a technology estate that has to support teaching, learning, administration and the wider school community. Over the course of the partnership the school’s requirements have developed significantly: infrastructure modernised, cloud services adopted, resilience improved and the approach to cyber security strengthened. Some workloads run in our private cloud, others stay on site where that remains the right approach. Brentwood’s IT team runs the day-to-day. We sit behind them as the escalation point for the harder infrastructure, cloud and platform issues, with engineers who already know the environment. There’s no ramp-up when something needs solving, and no time lost explaining how the estate is put together.
Server virtualisation and a move to hyper-converged infrastructure have modernised the core of the estate, improving resilience, flexibility and day-to-day manageability. The aim each time has been a platform that is easier to run and quicker to recover, not change for its own sake.
Selected workloads run in mtech.cloud, our UK private cloud, while others stay on site where that continues to be the right call. The blended model lets the school take advantage of cloud services while keeping flexibility across its operational environment, with each workload placed where it genuinely belongs.
Cloud backup and Google Workspace backup protect the school’s key systems and data across both hosted and cloud platforms. That reduces the risk around accidental deletion, data loss, corruption and user error, which matters as much for the cloud platforms the school now relies on as for the servers in the rack.
As part of the school’s digital transformation, we introduced network and network-profile tooling that has given Brentwood better visibility, control and structure across the environment. Knowing what is on the network, and being able to manage it cleanly, underpins both performance and security.

Where it goes next
The relationship isn’t standing still. Two projects are planned for summer 2026, both aimed at resilience and security. Resilient connectivity will improve availability and remove single points of failure across the school’s network. Enhanced email security will strengthen Brentwood’s defences against the email-based threats that target schools hardest, including phishing, impersonation and spoofing. Both continue the pattern of the past decade: measured, practical improvement to a technology environment the school relies on every day, planned with a partner that knows it well.
