Alexandra Park School is a thriving and dynamic school which boasts excellent examination results and as of its most recent Ofsted report, an outstanding curriculum experience in both the main school and the sixth form. The school, which opened in 1999, is situated on a beautiful five-acre site adjacent to Durnsford Park within sight of Alexandra Palace.

The Challenges:
The wireless network across the campus had a maximum throughput of 54Mbps, this was incapable of meeting the demands of the users and needed upgrading.
The school were running an ageing Cisco network which was upwards of 7 years old. The switching was made up of 10/100 edge switches with a 1G core. For 1700 students and 200 staff, heavily reliant on network traffic, this was negatively impacting on day to day performance.
The Solution in Brief:
M-Tech reviewed the needs of the school and, following a site survey, devised a full Aruba-based wired and wireless network solution.
The school were fitted with APs for both medium and high density areas, designed to optimise user experience by maximising Wi-Fi efficiency and dramatically reducing airtime contention between clients.
The existing switches were replaced by a redundant 10G core with a 40G stack of Layer 3 switches. The backplane stacking, low latency and resiliency made them suitable for the most demanding campus and branch networks.
The edge cabinets were replaced with smart web-managed Gigabit switches with 10GbE uplinks that support Layer 3 static routing on IPv4 and IPv6. These were made redundant with complex 10G fibre routing across the network.
Both the wireless and wired networks are managed through Aruba Central. This single pane of glass management console is designed to simplify the deployment, management and optimisation of WLAN, LAN, VPN and SD-WAN.
