On Thursday 24th May, M-Tech Systems, and guest partner, Actifio delivered a 45 minute webinar on the Gartner #1 ranked software solution.
Andy Irving from M-Tech had the hosting duties on this occasion and introduced M-Tech before handing over to Duncan Thomas, Solutions Architect from Actifio, to give us his insight into Actifio’s modernised backup and disaster recovery solution.
Duncan began with the bold statement of, ‘Actifio could be the last platform you ever need for backup and recovery’. He then gave a quick intro to the company and highlighted the recent achievement of the Gartner award for most innovative backup provider on the market right now.
According to research by Gartner, organisations are struggling with backup, however from Duncan’s experience, backup isn’t necessarily where the problem lies, restore is where the issues comes in. You may be able to successfully back up your data, but is your company ready to restore its data?
As we all know, everything is changing in IT at a dramatic rate; demands have changed, businesses are 24/7, there is both the physical and virtual to contend with and zero tolerance to downtime or data loss. On top of this, outside influences such as GDPR and cyber crime are further threatening data.
Actifio want to protect your data and work on an incremental backup basis, you only ever do one complete backup at the start. Data is managed on an SLA basis and they operate instant mount technology, acting within minutes, not days.
Duncan explained that where backups generally are complicated, by being different for every vendor out there, restores are different again, and often have to be run through the same software they were backed up with. This becomes a very complex task, particularly in a disaster recover situation where there isn’t time to be faced with additional challenges.
Actifio aims to be the one tool to manage all of your backups, with a focus on speed of recovery. For large databases they have deep application integrations with many of the leading vendors. Duncan also delved into the software’s relationship with VMWare and MS SQL databases, before giving a snapshot demo of the product interface, showing how simple it is to navigate.
To summarise, Duncan discussed how all businesses are looking to accelerate their digital transformation and applications and data are now their most strategic assets. He focused on how data protection techniques haven’t kept pace with growth, change and increasing risk and how Actifio delivers revolutionary fast backup and instant recovery for your most critical workloads, on premises or in the cloud.
Andy and Duncan finished with the webinar with 10 minutes of Q&A from the attendees.
