The annual Eastbourne College Foundation Golf Challenge took place on Friday 6th July with M-Tech resuming their position as headline sponsor for the 9th consecutive year.
The Golf
This year’s golf day couldn’t have come at a better time, right in the middle of the summer 2018 heatwave. Perched at the foot of the South Downs, the Royal Eastbourne Golf Club is enviably located to provide relief from the sweltering conditions, with a constant cooling breeze floating across the course. Registration with coffee and bacon rolls saw the golfers well fed and ready to kick off the day, with the games beginning via shotgun start at 12:30pm. The players were kept refreshed, with supplies of water and beer delivered around the course throughout the day. By early evening the rounds were all finished and team AFC were declared the winners.
The Photo
The teams retired from the sunshine to wash up and change for the evening do, before returning to the course in time for the annual commemorative photo. Holding the M-Tech sign, and with MD Martin Lulham in the front row, the golfers smiled for the camera to mark another successful Old Eastbournian event.
The Auction
The Foundation raises money each year via auction for the Peter Bibby Award, which funds a bursary for a talented local cricketer to attend Eastbourne College. We usually try to pick a fun but useful technology item as our auction prize and this year definitely leant more towards the fun side of the scale. M-Tech donated a DJI Spark Aerial Drone. The mini drone comes with Full HD video, a 2-axis gimbal for stabilisation, 16 minutes of flight time, reaching speeds of up to 50km/h over a 2km range. To help get the winner started, we threw in a Micro SD card and Spark Remote Control – have fun!
The auction was a huge success as per usual, with the total raised from the day coming out at over £13,000 on first count.
Thanks to all who sponsored the Foundation Golf Day with us, we’re looking forward to 2019 already – fingers crossed for another heatwave!
