Cyber security threats are constantly evolving and security defences face an ongoing struggle to keep up. To highlight some of the key actions to take, we’ve created an infographic of the 8 Steps to Cyber Security.
You can download the Infographic as a PDF, or read it in text format below to copy and share with colleagues.
The 8 Steps to Cyber Security:
- Educate Your Users:
Build a culture of security with staff training and by raising awareness. Communicate what a breach could mean in reality and provide policies to follow. Read more in our article on Increasing Staff Security Awareness. You can also support your users in their security endeavours with a Password Manager.
- Proactive Monitoring:
Continually monitor systems and networks to check for unusual or unauthorised activity. Identify future problems before they impact business operations.
- Manage Remote Workers:
Train staff to adhere to remote working policies. Manage your devices to protect data travelling over public connections and from physical damage or theft. Read more in our article on Managing Remote Workers.
- Removable Media Restrictions:
Block certain apps and removable media on devices when using the company network. All devices should be
scanned before attaching.
- Patch Management:
Apply security patches once released and fully tested for compatibility with your system. Keep an inventory of all devices and their configurations. Find out more in our article on Patch Management.
- Strong User Privileges:
Control access to your organisation’s data through user account privileges. Only give administrative access where job function dictates a need for this.
- Maintain Network Security:
Protect your network from unauthorised access. Use firewalls against external threats and filter out malicious content. Test your security’s robustness.
- Malware and Virus Prevention:
Install and maintain anti-malware defences. Educate employees in how to be vigilant against possible threats.
