Over the summer, M-Tech have been working with a High School in Essex. They were in need of some modernisation from their existing sprawled physical server infrastructure of 11 servers and a traditional agent-based backup. We proposed a virtualised platform using a technology stack of Datacore, VMWare and Veeam. This replaced all but one of their existing servers, with one new, highly spec’d server containing redundant SSD drives, alongside standard hard drives and redundant power. The remaining original server was reused and fitted with standard drives.
The school have gained back some space, improved availability and efficiency, reduced power and cooling costs, and have a better business continuity plan by leveraging Veeam as a virtualisation aware backup and disaster recovery platform.
Further to this project, our Senior Technical Consultant, Giles Eadon, is at the High School this week, streamlining their PC imaging by using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). MDT enables the automation of desktop and server deployments, saving time and standardising both desktop and server images, as well as offering improved security and ongoing configuration management.
